Supporting The Berry Good Foundation
Good food starts with strong communities. The Berry Good Food Foundation, one of our Repegs charities, is dedicated to creating a healthier and more sustainable food system in San Diego and Baja California. Through initiatives that empower small farmers, fund school gardens, and increase access to fresh, local food, they are making a lasting impact.
Every time you pay with Repegs, 5% of your savings, called the community fee, supports local charities like Berry Good Food. That means every purchase helps strengthen the local food system and create real change where it matters most.
To learn more about the foundation’s mission and impact, we spoke with Meredith Cochran, from the Berry Good Food team. She shared insights on the foundation’s latest initiatives, the impact of their school garden grants, and simple ways to support a stronger local food system.
Q&A with Meredith Cochran
Your work connects farmers, chefs, and communities, all advocating for access to healthy food. What’s one project or initiative you’re especially excited about right now?
Berry Good Food is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. We have developed so many new school gardens, expanded access to healthy food, and provided education on how to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Recently, we started planting gardens in retirement communities, and it has been incredible to see these garden champions bring life back to their neighborhoods.
Your programs empower and provide for so many in the community. What impact have you seen from your school garden grants and hands-on food education initiatives?
The biggest compliment we can receive is seeing a child working alongside their parents and grandparents to plant new gardens and hearing how happy they are to know that Berry Good Food exists. We strive to bring families together over fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring they have the knowledge and resources to nourish their loved ones with nutrient-rich foods.
Berry Good Food is all about building a stronger local food system. What’s one simple way people can support sustainable, local food in their daily lives?
Buy local. San Diego has the unique ability to grow food nearly year-round, and we have an incredible network of farmers and chefs dedicated to making fresh, local food accessible. We also accept applications annually from communities looking to plant gardens in their schools and neighborhoods, and we strongly encourage people to apply!
By choosing Repegs, you’re not just saving money—you’re investing in a stronger, more sustainable food system. Support local, give back, and be part of the movement
